A shocking number of companies are running an excessive number of security tools in an attempt to gain real-time visibility—which has led to serious threats and oversight across the enterprise.
In a recent study by Panaseer, the security monitoring firm polled 200 enterprise CISOs to learn about the strategic challenges their organizations faced. Panaseer found that 87% of respondents claimed they were struggling to gain meaningful insight into their data. The various security tools they’ve employed have created complex, siloed IT systems that lead to inefficient, outdated data collection.
According to the study, the average organization was running 57 separate security tools—and 27% of respondents were running more than 76 as they tried to protect data and mitigate risk. In reality, implementing this many separate products is inefficient and more dangerous to the enterprise because it is impossible for organizations to keep track of accurate data within so many siloes. In fact, more than 70% of respondents in the study said they didn’t evaluate their security tools based on their effectiveness in reducing cyber risk.
